GOOD LUCK with your shows. As everyone has stated, Carl will be very sadly missed by so many people, his work reached far and long across the city. Carl wore a number of hats, but for everyone who worked with him in the world of radio, Carl Speare WAS community radio, without his vision none of us would have been transmitting from McDonalds, Shopping Centres or shop fronts !!! He will be with you all in spirit, smiling that smile and saying ‘nice one’

I didnt know Carl for very long but the time i knew him he had a really warm and calming energy that made you feel relaxed.
I first walked into the radio class in Yellow House, i was really nervous and i told everyone that i dreamt that i was going to be on radio the night before an the next day recieved a newsletter from Kensington Vision asking for local people to present the radio project, it was my dream come true.
Every session was enjoyable, the people were passionate, Carl was a great mentor, he made each and everyone of us welcome and give everyone the same commitment and expertise and did not leave anyone out. What Carl did for me was create the space for me to find my own style and empowered me to be creative and to stop apologising for my errors.
Carl was a great teacher who was brilliant at getting the best out of people without even having to give the answers.
I will miss him being there when im on air but i know he will be looking down on us all. I send my deepest sympathy to his wife and his family, and will take on board all of his notes and will make him proud.

Good Night

J

Only recently I was talking about this poem with Carl and how I read it to my sons for guidance and inspiration, he said he was himself particularly fond of these words and the message they carry, if you take the time to read it through I’m sure you will agree there is so much of it that embody’s the Carl we knew and loved….

IF…..

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
‘ Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

It was a privilige to work with him and a blessing to have had his friendship. I am honoured to be part of KVfm 2009 and to be carrying this project on in his name, we are going to make you proud.
Sweet Dreams Carlx

Gizza job…..go ‘ead, I can do that.

Seriousley, I am willling to work pn a volountary basis, and I have a face that is- shall we say- well suited for radio.

I have a most excellent idea for a show. It involves local, cutting edge new music and city centre venues. Its cost effective, easy to produce, could have massive appeal to audiences and is unuiqe.
If you are at all interested, even just a little bit curious, then get in touch. I will be coming to hassle you with my shameless pleas until you either concede, or get a court order.

Day 1 Report back and stats

snelly2

The day started with heavy rain, and a visit by Radio Merseyside’s broadcast van turning up to do a report on KVFM. Got a bit wet standing outside, but Carl and Jessica were very good and came over well, especially Jessica’s “Dream” Story.

The first show from the Academy students went well,  the two girls Sacred Heart did a splendid job, inteviewing Tony Snell (who was our guest of honour). I did my show…..enough said and then it was onto the Mark and Paula who did well despite a guest not showing, Steve and Jacky were as good as expected including a visit from old Alt Valley mate Vinnie Timmins, Vinnie it’s time to come back to Kensington and Fairfield were you’d be appreciated. Finally Ian “The Prof” Sinnott was on, with me as a guest, well why not. There’s not much Ian doesnt know about the 1948 Telegraphy Act I can tell you.
